Myrna Barinaga
Myrna Barinaga left for the United States from the Philippines with her two small daughters. One of the girls had to have immediate open-heart surgery to repair a serious congenital heart defect. Time was running out for little Stella, who was predicted to live only four years if surgical repair of her heart was not done. Another daughter is affected by cerebral palsy caused by traumatic birth injury and is severely mentally and physically retarded. Ms. Barinaga writes about her and her husband’s plight to seek medical care and save their children. The search for help led them to come to the United States after a lengthy process. Myrna Barinaga’s academic career includes a bachelor of science in nursing from Silliman University in the Philippines and graduates studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where she earned a master of science in education. In addition to balancing career and motherhood, Myrna served as president of the board of directors of the Altadena Christian Children’s Center. She also served in the board of deacons at the Altadena Baptist Church, where she sings in the choir and serves as a lay worship leader on occasion.
About The Book
A story of a family's struggle and survival of the brutal Japanese-American war. I was one of eight children in that family, walking for days in the jungle for safety and living on prayers. Thankfully, the war ended with us all in the family alive and together. Marriage and childbearing brought four children, two with very special needs. Searching for help led us to come to America. I was a total wreck. My faith was at the breaking point. This was one time in my life when I felt God had abandoned me.
“Behind A Tiny Story,” centers on the idea that life is precious and a precarious ordeal. A valence of a Christian driven life and high spirited individual, make this masterpiece an urgent literature to have. This utterly interesting life story of the author will surely weave into every reader’s life. One may see oneself in either episodes of the story. Everyone has battles in life and we choose when and how we fight them. In this book, the battles of the author’s tense existence during the Japanese invasion in the Philippines and the struggles of life difficulties were won through a masterful combination of the Christian way of the cross and the heart of a persevering and courageous warrior. Indeed, we win our battles and we consequently claim our respective prizes. However, Myrna won her battles but the prizes are not for her taking but for the generations to come. This stems from her wanting for her succeeding generation to know what they were so as to better understand and appreciate the choices and directions she took in life. The traces of her life story aptly show the way she fights every challenge she was into. Her accurate and realistic accounts of the pains brought about by her difficult pregnancies manifest the strength which the author gained from life principles that she firmly held. Additionally, her immigration to the United States of America is equally challenging and yet she manages to hurdle through it with enormous success. On the other hand, the pleasure of the triumphs of her academic success that affords her the carrier that defines her, the triumph of having given birth to her children and a business venture that is propelled not by profit rather by the Christian principle of “via, veritas, vita.” Myrna has her ways of dealing with life. These prove to her effective. It is now everyone’s task to discover a new and fresher ways that are deemed effective. One can definitely sift out patterns of which from the juices of Myrna’s huge heart and profound character. The inspiration and the message: Evidently, the author is inspired not only of her life but also the lives of the people that surrounds her- the family. The message which she wants to convey is that it is good to reflect upon the good we can do to ourselves and to our family. It is better if the ripples extend to others so that goodness radiates into their lives as well. However, it is best if these are done along the principles of love, care and compassion.

Marriage and childbearing brought four children, two with very special needs. Searching for help led us to come to America. I did not intend to make my obstacles and struggles in life the focus of my story. However, I would like to direct the reader to the power of faith and prayer and the strength and perseverance derived from allowing God to guide and lead me in my life's journey. With all that life has offered me, "my heart, awaking, cries, 'May Jesus Christ be praised!'" When Morning Gilds the Skies When morning gilds the skies, my heart awaking cries, May Jesus Christ be praised! Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair, May Jesus Christ be praised! First of all, I would like to say thank you to the author for sharing not just about her life but the others who are dear to her as well. Because of this book, it encourages me to do the same also in making a book about my life and hopefully, the readers would also love my story just as how I loved the book.

I enjoyed reading the book! It was indeed fun because the memories kept on flashing back as I was reading some of the stories that also happened to me and to people I know. I will surely recommend reading this book to others!

It's lovely to hear that the author and her family have such strong faith in Jesus! Indeed we should be thanking and phrasing Jesus Christ for all the blessings in our lives.

Upon reading the stories about the childhood of the author, I suddenly felt nostalgic for those times when I always play outside our house with my friends and siblings and would often get injuries because of my clumsiness.

I loved how the father of the author gave them such lovely names and the reason for each of them are very clever! Someday I would also do the same to my future children's names.
